The Apple iPad 10.2-inch tablet is finally here much to the delight of everyone as it packs new upgrades without boosting the price. One of the biggest changes that you can expect from this iPad is that it now sports the latest A12 chip which raises the bar when it comes to the device’s performance. It still supports Smart Keyboard which means that it can be converted into a mini laptop for added convenience. Aside from installing the latest chipset, expect that the iPad 10.2in 2020 will also run on iPadOS 14 which gives you more functionality for the Apple Pencil.

However, if you are expecting that Apple will be tweaking the design of its newest iPad, you might be disappointed. Your first impression of the new tablet is that it is similar to the iPad 7. Yes, that big bezels surrounding the screen will be there, not to mention that you will revert to Touch ID again. Also, it is a bit odd that this tablet is missing a place to store the pencil which adds to the issue. Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives making this a good device to invest on. Read more about it in this iPad 10.2 review.

Release Date and Price Tag

The latest iPad has a base price of £329 which comes with a 32GB worth of internal storage. This will change if you prefer to invest on one with more internal storage or comes with an LTE network connection. Both of these features will mean that the price will get jacked up as well.

You can find cheaper options for tablets from third party sellers such as in the case of QwikFone. The release date for this much-awaited tablet was on September 18 this year which means that it is hot off the press.

How Does It Look?

Like it was mentioned a while ago, the overall look of its tablet is a bit old, especially when you put it side by side with the latest iPad Air 4. Yes, the latter is more expensive, but we didn’t expect that the 10.2 inch iPad will simply follow how its predecessors looked! You can’t even imagine the bezels away no matter how hard you try. If you hold this device in a vertical position, you will find that the Touch ID is located below the display. You’re probably familiar with this tech since it has been installed in previous models as an added security.

The Lightning port is still present, but thankfully, Apple has added an adapter for USB-C to Lightning as part of the package which means that you will be able to charge quickly which we all need.

Overall, the design of the iPad 10.2 doesn’t really stand out since it is basically a reiteration of the previous device. You can tell that it is not as premium feeling than the higher models, but it will work just fine for those who simply want to move up in their iPad use.

What About Its Screen?

This device will have a very familiar screen since it is equipped with a 10.2 inch Retina Screen which is the same as the 7th Gen iPad . This is a decent sized screen for work, watching movies, and even hours of game time. There may be a bit of a glare here, but it does deliver sharp details to your screen. It has a pixel resolution of 2160 x 1620 which is decent enough for this size. Except for that glare, the screen delivers the full spectrum of colors to it which heightens user experience.

A Spotlight on A12 Bionic

The new Apple iPad 10.2 inch gadget certainly made an impression as it performs considerably better when compared to laptops that are priced below $400. What’s the secret behind its impressive performance? Apple’s A12 Bionic chipset. What this processor offers is better CPU performance since it has elevated its speed up to 40%. Add to this the fact that the graphics are 2 times faster and you will find this tablet to be well worth the investment.

Even if you play those heavy games in this model, you will find that there are no lags and that the response time is just right. Editing photos is a breeze too which is great for those who want to get creative with their photos.

More on the Apple Pencil

Aside from the fact that there is no place for you to store this pencil together with your tablet, it does look a bit awkward when charging it. That said, you’re sure to be impressed with its performance because it is responsive and quite precise too when drawing, scribbling, and so on. You’ll love its latest feature which is named Scribble wherein you can write in any way you want and it will still appear as a readable text.

Increase Productivity with Smart Keyboard

Another point that is worth discussing in this iPad 10.2 review is the use of the Smart Keyboard. It’s actually great for typing but the Magic Keyboard is considerably better. It also means that you will have to dish out an extra $159 for this accessory which is a bummer, but if you want a more compact means of typing out reports and such, then this is a good option already. I like that the keyboard can also work as an extra cover for the iPad’s screen which is a win for me.

What’s Up with the iPadOS 14?

Let’s talk about the operating system in the new iPad. This software update allows you to display widgets on the left in larger sizes, plus you can add some more to it. Check out the Smart Stacks wherein you can browse through your widgets with ease. The tech giant has also made some improvements on the design of the apps to give them that desktop vibe since this iPad can be transformed into your mini laptop in an instant.

What you’ll love about this latest software is that it makes your usage more convenient especially when SIRI and the Search bar will not take up half of your screen. It does try to remain in the background which is great.

How Does the Camera Fare?

The camera specs for this tablet is the same as that of its predecessor meaning that you will get an 8MP camera at the back and 1.2MP sensor at the front. Thanks to the latest bionic chipset, image processing has never been better. Although there is nothing spectacular about the cameras installed, you can still get decent photos and videos with it which isn’t that bad at all. Even when taking photos outdoors, the images will remain true which is worth noting.

Battery and Charging Speed

The battery life on this model was surprisingly long as it can last for around 13 hours at least with continuous usage. Like it was stated before, you can expect that an adapter will be included here for USB-C to Lightning charging but the speed in which the device gets charged is not noteworthy. Still, the battery in this gadget is going to give hours of usage with just a single charge.

What’s the Verdict?

In terms of Apple’s newest iPads, the 10.2 inch iPad is a decent gadget worth getting this year especially when you are on a tight budget. Apple has seen it fit to equip it with the latest chipset and operating system to ensure fast performance. You will find that this gadget is up to the task of handling heavy tasks such as editing photos, doing reports, running Netflix in the background, or even hours of gameplay without any hitch.

Its battery life is good enough for more than 12 hours of continuous usage which is a big deal already especially for its price. You can get the Apple Pencil too plus Smart Keyboard but you will have to spend something extra for these accessories which I think is a good deal given that this iPad can give you good value for your money.

However, the design can be off putting for some, especially after seeing the newer iPad, but this is just one of those flaws that shouldn’t take away the benefits of this product. I have to say that it is a bit bulky, and the huge bezels did not do much for its overall look. Still, the user experience is impressive given that I could do multiple tasks smoothly.

I would recommend that you upgrade it to 128GB if you have the budget since the 32GB model can get used up pretty quick. With the higher internal storage, you will be able to download more applications onto your device without worrying about running out of space.

Overall, the new iPad 10.2 inch from Apple is a worthwhile investment for those who are looking for a gadget that can help them do their tasks in a more compact and convenient manner. Equipped with the latest A12 Bionic chipset and iPadOS 14, there is nothing that this device can’t do for you for a price that will not burn a hole in your savings or the refurbished Apple iPad is the other option to save money. Give it a try here to see whether this one works for you or not.
